About John Jurgensen

John JurgensenWhere did you go to school?

I went to Stanford (I was born and raised in Southern California) where I received a B.S. in Chemical Engineering and an M.B.A. with a concentration in Finance.

Tell us how you became involved with Grace

Our daughter and her family were members of Grace. I took a job in Indiana in 1993 and after much church shopping, we decided on Grace. It was clearly God's church for us. At the time of joining the staff in February of 2000 I was serving as a Governing Elder and a part of the Men’s Ministry Leadership Team. I came on staff as Senior Director of Development. This role was to focus 50% on stewardship ministry development and was responsible for the creation and development of our Faith and Finances ministry. The other 50% was serving in Outreach and Grace Community Ministries.  I have been serving as Pastor of Administration since September of 2003.

What do you do around Grace?
I oversee: Finance & Accounting, Facilities, Human Resources, Information Technology, and Production. I am also a member of the Management Team, the Executive Team, and the Governing Board.

Tell us about your family
Margot, a Christian counselor, and I were married 45 years this past June. We have two kids one of whom, Jennifer, is married and has given us three wonderful grandchildren. Jennifer and her husband Brian Peters are founding members of Grace and a part of Covenant Community. Our son Jeff lives in Chicago.

What is your favorite movie of all time?
There is no one movie that is a favorite, but I do like mystery/action movies, romantic comedies, and uplifting message movies.

What is your favorite TV show?
NCIS and Numbers. Also, Margot and I really enjoy Dancing With the Stars.

What is your favorite book?
Again, there is no one favorite although the book that is at the top of my list for the past year is N.T. Wright’s, Surprised by Hope. I'm also am trying to keep up on reading as many books as I can of those Dave Rod' recommends to the pastors.

Any special talents to share?
I am focusing on learning to be the best parent of adult kids and the best grandparent that I can be.

Tell us one thing about you that would surprise us. Hobbies? Past experiences?
Digital photography is growing as a hobby and as a primary creative outlet.
