About Rob Yonan
Where did you go to school?
Lane Tech High School in Chicago. It was awesome!
Then it was on to Moody Bible Institute for a diploma in 1977, followed by courses at Northeastern University and Triton College before heading back to Moody for a degree in '79. Over time, I picked up courses at Wheaton Graduate School, but have yet to finish (sigh). As with all Cubs fans, I’ve been to the school of Hard Knocks.
Tell us how you became involved with Grace
Dave and Penny Rod are college friends. Dave contacted me when the church started, but I just moved to a new ministry and couldn’t leave those students. Nine years later, he called again and here we are.
I serve with a GREAT TEAM as the Pastor of Student Ministry
I got the youth ministry bug back in my junior year of college (1976). Three years of volunteering led to a part time position '79, then full time on Jan 1, 1980. It’s been a wild ride out of a deep call of God on my life.
What do you do around Grace?
As the Pastor of Student Ministry I get to spend time in our Middle School, High School, and Access ministries (talk about a wide spectrum of experiences!).
Tell us about your family
My grandparents were born in the mountains of Turkey where both grandfathers were shepherds. Three of my grandparents were Assyrian and one Armenian. They fled during the war with the Kurds and settled in Chicago.
I’ve been married to Susan since 1979. Our son Chris was born in '83 and our daughter Amy in '87. We bought a home with Susan’s parents in the summer of '98 and continue to live with her mom.
