Was there a defining moment that caused you to become pastor full-time? What has been the biggest surprise in ministry?
I had the opportunity to sell a business and once the sale was complete I took the time to consider the next chapter in my life. I was sitting in a boat on a lake in northern Michigan thinking about the future and suddenly I heard a distinct voice saying, “You can do this,” meaning I could find a way to go to seminary and I could prepare for the pastorate. It wasn’t an out-of-the-question idea even though I was in my mid-forties with two kids in college and our youngest a senior in High School. I am certain that this one moment was a turning point in my life. It gave me the confidence to move ahead, changed my direction and led to being full-time at Grace.
Biggest Surprise: Having a seemingly unending source of energy.
