Frequently Asked Questions
- How does the staffing process work at Grace?
After a staff role has been posted, we typically allow several weeks for applicants to submit resumes. As resumes come in, they are each thoroughly reviewed. Those applicants who most closely fit the qualifications will be invited to interview with a selection team. The selection team is usually made up of 4-6 staff, volunteers and leaders; all who have a vested interest in the job. While it can be a little nerve-wracking to interview with a bunch of people, we do our best to provide a comfortable and casual approach to the interview. In most situations we will invite our top few candidates back in for a second interview or for a lunch with a larger group of team members. Once we feel confident that God has led us to the best candidate for this time and place, we will extend a job offer.
- Why does it take so long?
Well, to be honest, doing things in teams takes a little longer. More schedules to coordinate, more opinions to be processed… But, we think it is important to hear from each other and we believe that the most fair and effective decisions are made in a team. We try our best to keep applicants informed through the process, but if you ever feel like you need an update, do not hesitate to contact us to find out where we are in the process.
- Does Grace offer benefits to employees?
Absolutely. All staff members working 30 hours or more per week are eligible for health and dental insurance, life and disability insurance, a flexible spending plan, participation in a 403(b) retirement savings plan and other benefits such as paid time off, a fitness discount and time off for personal development.
- What are you looking for in a Grace Staff member?
When we go into a hiring process, we are typically assessing applicants based on the 4 “C’s” – Character, Competence, Chemistry and Calling. Essentially that means that the best candidates for a staff role at Grace will have an impeccable moral compass and subscribe to the same core beliefs about God and ministry that we do. Competence means that the individual has the right education, the most applicable experience, the strongest skills and the appropriate knowledge to do the job as it is designed. We know that chemistry can be a tricky thing, but the ability to “click” with the existing volunteer & staff teams and fit well into our organizational culture is absolutely key to a great working relationship. And finally, we believe that the right candidates are specifically and unquestionably called by God to serve in vocational ministry – and that a compelling call is important in every single job at Grace.
